Child Adoption

Child adoption in Pakistan is when a person or couple legally takes a child from another family, providing care and a loving home. The adoptive parents take on parental responsibilities, ensuring the child’s well-being and rights within the family.

In Pakistan, there are two main methods to adopt a child:

  1. Adoption through a child protection bureau or registered orphanage.
  2. Adoption through the guardian court.

To adopt an orphan, you must visit authorized orphanages or child protection centers like Chippa or Edhi. The adoption process begins in the district court, where the adopting parents must prove they are suitable for adoption.

Before starting court proceedings, you need to submit:

  • Your profile, including your preference for the child’s gender and age.
  • Relevant documents such as your profession, income, and marital status.
  • A lawyer prepares the case and submits all necessary paperwork to the court.

Child Adoption Procedure:

Eligibility for adopting a Pakistani child includes the following:

  • The adoptive parents should be Muslim, unless they are adopting a Christian child.
  • The couple must have been married for a minimum of three years.
  • Both parents must be at least 25 years old.
  • One parent must be of Pakistani origin or eligible for a NICOP or CNIC (for foreigners).
  • Proof of ability to raise a child financially.

Court Procedure:

  1. File a suit for the termination of parental rights.
  2. The court issues a notice to the parties involved.
  3. Submit the adoption deed or consent from the birth parents.
  4. Present evidence and finalize the case with arguments.
  5. A decree is issued by the court, granting guardianship.
  6. After obtaining a guardianship decree, you can apply for a NADRA B-form (Child Registration Certificate).

This process ensures that all legal requirements for child adoption are met.
